Our History

Edward Sylvia Jr. and Associates was founded by Edward J. Sylvia, Jr., a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts. With a background in business, law, and real estate development, Edward has built a company that is rooted in experience and dedication. His journey began as a championship-winning sprinter and a national student leader with Junior Achievement, eventually leading him to a successful career in construction, law, and real estate.

Edward’s career includes marketing at Vick Chemical Company, New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, and corporate acquisitions at W.R. Grace Company. He has attended various educational programs, including chemical admixtures courses at Sun Chemical Laboratories and aggregate and concrete courses at the University of Maryland College of Engineering and construction graduate courses at Harvard. Edward’s diverse experience has positioned him as a leader in real estate development and property tax consulting.

Our Founder.

Edward J. Sylvia, Jr. has a remarkable career that spans various industries. He graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963, where he was CEO of Business Licensing for all sororities and fraternities on campus.  He won the Moses True Brown public speaking contest and was New England Inter-Collegiate 50-yard dash championship, participating in AAU track meets around the country. Edward later earned a doctorate degree from Suffolk University Law School while serving as a deputy sheriff and court officer for Bristol County. Atty Sylvia has lectured on business to graduate students at Brown University, Harvard, UMass Dartmouth and Indiana University

He has also been an attorney at the law firm Prescott, Bullard & McLeod, specializing in real estate law. Edward’s commitment to equal rights and low-income housing development has made a significant impact in the community. He has served on the Board of Directors for St. Luke’s Hospital, Junior Achievement, and other business organizations.
